In spirit, sisters and brothers are we;
Cousins, all of us, genetically.
Sharing the same bits of DNA coil;
Slave to its imperatives do we toil.
All around us our Family in pain;
Ravaged and tortured by acts inhumane.
Sickly and distressed, lonely and depressed;
Starving and oppressed, by evil possessed.
Inhabitants of a world composed cruel;
All of our lives into the crucible.
Despite suffering within and without,
And protestations by truly devout,
We respond with indifference and neglect,
Pangs of our conscience we seek to deflect.
Failing to see ourselves in others,
Ignoring bonds to sisters and brothers,
Opportunities to comfort are lost,
For all humanity at such great cost.
